Quicker and smarter

With Eaton's intelligent cabling solution 'SmartWire', you can make your traditional machine control intelligent, without replacing components.

Using plug-and-play I/O modules on your standard components, you can bring I/Os to the components without redesigning the machine control or replacing components. With a single cable and one click, you connect all the I/Os on your normally 'non-intelligent' Eaton components that you now use in your current conventional control. This makes them intelligent without replacing them.

Eaton's intelligent 'SmartWire' cabling solution communicates in this way both inside and outside the control cabinet, and also brings energy to the relevant components. This allows you to not only handle the I/O on the components, but also read valuable data from your processes and from the components themselves. As a result, you can easily and quickly update your control system to Industry 4.0. Whether that's today, tomorrow or in a few years.

Not only will you save costs with SmartWire-DT by making already purchased components intelligent, you will also save in connection time, project planning costs and space in the control cabinet. Because SmartWire-DT replaces the PLC I/O, it saves up to 40% space in the control cabinet. It also replaces the entire control wiring.

In serial machine construction, there is an additional benefit. If you have 1 cable custom made, you can disconnect it and duplicate it. This gives you prefabricated cables, saving up to 85% on wiring time. In addition, the connectors also prevent wiring errors, which can reduce the time needed for wiring testing and commissioning by 70%.

One SmartWire-DT cable can be up to 600 meters long and can have 99 modules connected to it. Via a gateway, you can link SmartWire-DT with all common PLCs and fieldbus systems. This way the hardware inside and outside the cabinet remains the same and only the overhead control changes.

So in a simple way, Eaton's SmartWire allows you to quickly update your machine for Industry 4.0 at your own pace. Meanwhile, SmartWire is compatible with many of Eaton's standard components, including contactors, motor protection devices, frequency inverters, soft starters, circuit breakers, push buttons, signal lights, stack lights, control relays and remote I/O.

In this way, SmartWire takes your current components in your conventional plant and makes them intelligent by bringing the I/Os to the components via a flatbed cable. This allows process data as well as the status of actuators and sensors to be analyzed.

With Eaton, you are ready for the future now!

    Rittal - New F-gas Regulation
The new European F-gas Regulation (EU) 2024/573 has been in force since 11 March 2024 and will be phased in gradually from 1 January 2025. The regulation is an important pillar of the European climate strategy and has one clear goal: to drastically reduce emissions of fluorinated greenhouse gases and ultimately phase them out completely by 2050. This has far-reaching consequences for the choice, use and future availability of refrigerants in industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

Plukon - Scanning for the future
The Plukon poultry slaughterhouse in Blokker has installations from all kinds of machine builders and suppliers. Each of these has its own control system and associated components from different brands. This situation has developed over time, with the result that Plukon lost track of the overall picture. When it became clear that many components were now obsolete, the company decided to have itsme carry out a FactoryScan. ‘This gives us more peace of mind and helps us to better plan the replacement of components for the future.’
