Siemens – Revolution in Motion Control

How machine builders cut engineering time in half

It’s the start of a new work week. While you’re putting the finishing touches on an important project, a request comes in: the customer reports a failure. The machine is down, but the deadline is approaching. Fast action is required.

For many machine builders, this is reality. The market for small to medium-sized machines is under pressure. They must deliver faster, reduce costs without compromising quality, and meet strict standards while skilled personnel remain scarce. The demand for integrated solutions that are not only powerful but also easy to implement and efficient to use is growing.

The game changer: SINAMICS, SIMATIC and TIA Portal

Siemens delivers automation systems designed for simplicity, speed, and (digital) safety, at the right investment.

A powerful solution for machines that need to be both economical and functional is the combination of SINAMICS S200/S210 servo systems with the SIMATIC S7-1200 G2 PLC, integrated into Siemens’ TIA Portal engineering environment.

This combination is suitable for single axes, coordinated motion, or simple kinematics.

TIA Portal

Siemens’ Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal is a software platform and “all-in-one workspace” that unites all aspects of your automation projects in a single user-friendly environment.

Sinamics

  • The S200 is optimized for the basic segment, offering high dynamics, a compact design, safety functions such as STO and SS1 via terminals (SIL3), integrated braking resistor, and global applicability.
  • The S210 goes further, targeting broader applications with shorter cycle times, various servo motor types, and safety functions via PROFIsafe. The One Cable Connection (OCC) combines power, encoder, and brake in a single cable. With an integrated EMC filter, the design is highly complete.
  • Future readiness is ensured through an integrated web server, digital twin capabilities, security-by-default settings, user management & access control, as well as firmware updates.

Both systems integrate seamlessly with SIMATIC PLCs, including the S7-1200 G2(F). For high-end applications, they can be used with the S7-1500T(F).

Ready for your motion control challenges

With Siemens solutions, you choose consistency, scalability, reliability, and future readiness. Not separate puzzle pieces, but one integrated whole.

You create a complete and coherent ecosystem, resulting in significant savings in engineering time, fewer errors, easier diagnostics, and higher productivity. All of this leads to a future-proof solution, supported by traditional and digital services for your digital transformation and strategic goals.

Plukon - Scanning for the future
The Plukon poultry slaughterhouse in Blokker has installations from all kinds of machine builders and suppliers. Each of these has its own control system and associated components from different brands. This situation has developed over time, with the result that Plukon lost track of the overall picture. When it became clear that many components were now obsolete, the company decided to have itsme carry out a FactoryScan. ‘This gives us more peace of mind and helps us to better plan the replacement of components for the future.’

    Silmaco - Site assessment
Kemira Rotterdam produces hydrogen peroxide in various grades at its Europoort site for applications such as water purification, cleaning beverage packaging and bleaching paper. As is customary in the process industry, the installation was lit 24/7 for safety reasons. Kemira felt that there was a smarter way to do this. That is why the company contacted itsme Lighting Technology. ‘In addition to saving energy, we are now also saving on maintenance.’

    Damen - Modbus on board
At Damen Shipyards Group, field service engineers fly all over the world to provide service and carry out repairs. In addition to mechanics and electronics, communication networks are becoming increasingly important, with Modbus as the standard protocol. To brush up on their people's knowledge, Damen went in search of Modbus training. The shipbuilder chose itsme because of the customisation and flexibility that the industrial service provider could offer. ‘Nowhere else could we find this level of expertise.’ Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
