Leuze LiDAR Technology: Compact – Efficient – Versatile

The power of a small yet robust scanner!

With the ROD100, objects can be detected in a two-dimensional plane using a highly compact integrated area scanner. This switching sensor is part of a complete family of LiDAR sensors. It detects one or multiple objects at distances up to 25 meters and is also perfectly suitable as collision protection, for example on (overhead) cranes. The sensor performs reliably whether it is used in a warm factory hall or in a deep-freeze environment.

The ROD family now consists of 3 variants:

  • ROD 100 with 16 programmable field sets (triples) to reliably detect different object sizes, or to monitor all travel directions of driverless vehicles (e.g. AGVs)
  • ROD 300, the measuring variant, specially developed for precise contour detection (e.g. pallets)
  • ROD 500, which generates the most accurate measurement values, used among others for navigation information of AGVs or AMRs (automated guided vehicles / autonomous mobile robots) and for other applications requiring the highest precision.

Scanners have become indispensable in many automation processes. The advantages of stable detection through multiple scans on a single object, or the two-dimensional “view” with infrared light, provide greater convenience and reliability in industrial environments.

The ROD100 offers great flexibility in configuration, with software available free of charge. Users gain instant insight into the status of the sensor. The dimensions of up to 16 field sets (three fields per set) can be configured, and functionality can be easily adjusted to specific needs, such as project name or assignment of inputs and outputs. The display clearly indicates the zone in which an object is detected and also shows contamination warnings.

With an opening angle of 275˚ and a speed of 80 Hz, this results in an angular resolution of 0.2˚: one of the best in its class.

Plukon - Scanning for the future
The Plukon poultry slaughterhouse in Blokker has installations from all kinds of machine builders and suppliers. Each of these has its own control system and associated components from different brands. This situation has developed over time, with the result that Plukon lost track of the overall picture. When it became clear that many components were now obsolete, the company decided to have itsme carry out a FactoryScan. ‘This gives us more peace of mind and helps us to better plan the replacement of components for the future.’
